Acclaimed Comedy Writer and Performer Sarah McChesney Brings New Classes to Steel City Improv Theater This Fall
PITTSBURGH, PA (August 7, 2025) – Steel City Improv Theater (SCIT) is delighted to welcome Sarah McChesney—a nationally recognized comedy writer, performer, and alumna of The Groundlings and Upright Citizens Brigade—as the newest member of its instructional team this September.
McChesney brings a powerhouse resume that includes writing and producing credits with HBO, Netflix, Nickelodeon, Bravo, MTV, NBC, Disney, and more. She was selected as a writing fellow in the inaugural HBOAccess Diversity Writing Fellowship, and her pilot scripts have received top honors in competitions such as the Tracking Board’s Launch Pad and the PAGE International Screenwriting Awards.
A multi-hyphenate talent, McChesney is also a trained puppeteer with The Jim Henson Company, having performed with the live improv show Puppet Up! and written for Ketchup with the Hotdogs, a digital series from Henson and Nerdist Studios. She currently serves as a writer and director on the animated series Fire Spike for Bored Panda Studios.
Known for her quick wit, deep experience, and apparently endless wig collection, McChesney has performed in more sketch comedy shows than she can count—and now brings that energy and expertise home to Pittsburgh.
“Sarah is a dream addition to our team,” said SCIT’s directors. “She blends top-tier industry experience with heart, humor, and a fearless creative voice—everything we want our students to learn from.”
Enrollment for her Short Form Improv and Sketch Writing Classes are now registering at steelcityimprov.com.
