This is where is all began. And where we’re going next.
Steel City Improv Theater was built on long form improvisation. When we opened our doors in 2010, there was no dedicated home to improv or alternative comedy – so we created one. What began with eight performers in a church basement quickly grew into a vibrant community.
Now we’re returning to our roots with renewed focus: To teach long form not just as a comedic format, but as an artform, a communication tool and a platform for unforgettable performance. Our professional level training program empowers students to do more than play – they elevate the scene.
At the SCIT, we believe long form improv is about more than making people laugh. It’s about connection, listening deeply, responding honestly and building something together that’s greater than the sum of it’s parts. We don’t teach gimmicks or shortcuts. We teach presence. We teach craft. We help performers trust their instincts, support their scene partners and find joy in discovery – not in being clever, but in being real. Our goal isn’t to create clones. It’s to help each improviser find their unique voice and bring their whole self to the stage.
Whether you’re brand new to improv or a seasoned performer, this program offers space to sharpen your skills, build community, and grow as an artist.
