Listen. Commit. Play.
History is full of challenges, and the people that summarily met those challenges. Babe Zaharias. Bruno Sammartino. Gordon Bombay. Yes. But what does that mean for us, today? How might we face the challenges of the modern world? As usual, your friendly local improv theater has the answer, as Steel City Improv Theater presents “The Challenge: Goon River”!
Goon River is a form of improv driven entirely by short character monologues. Based on your suggestions, our improvisers delve deep into their mental Rolodexes of quirky characters and mysterious personalities to bring you a veritable rogue’s gallery of rakes, rastabouts, and, uh, rogues. We ran out of synonyms — but our improvisers never do! In the guise of these characters, our improvisers use soliloquies to weave a tale that has never been heard before and never will be again. It’s just like the good parts of high school English class, only you can drink. Legally.
Why do our improvisers agree to take on such an imposing challenge? Like Sir Edmund Hillary surveying Everest — because it is there.
