You continue to walk down the dark path, hearing sounds of laughter as you approach the end of the alley. You turn the corner and see a sign at the bottom of a small set of wooden stairs. Thankfully, you speak the native language of Improv and know the sign reads “Steel City Improv Theater Presents: Improvised Dungeons & Dragons! Admission: $10”
You pull a ten dollar bill out of your pocket and as you look back up, you notice the door at the top of the stairs opens on it’s own. You slowly approach the entrance and walk in to find an empty hallway with a black door at the very end. While you walk down the hallway you remember to silence all cell phones and electronic devices, as not to disturb anyone… or anything beyond the black door.
Upon walking through the black door, you begin to step into a room that is mostly dark except for one light source which seems to be focused on one specific group of people. As you step closer, they immediately notice you and toss a large inflatable object at you, which you catch with ease. On a closer inspection, you realize this is a giant 20-sided die and you aren’t really sure what to do with it.
You explain that your car broke down and you’re just trying to find somewhere to call AAA. Confused by your behavior, these people start to plead how they need your assistance with a suggestion for a location in a fantasy setting. Your first reaction was to say “Tavern” as to which they respond “Tavern, thank you!” and begin to set up the stage. They start to do scene work as players of a game, interacting with eachother as knights and wizards, kings and villagers, dragons and monsters, all while developing their characters and seemingly creating a full story based solely off of your suggestion.
At this point you reach into your pocket and realize your $10 is now missing, but there just so happens to be an open seat in the front row…
